Stair Rope Banister

I'm back in California...that means more projects at Ryan's remodel.  We finally got the stair rope brackets from England (yes, we ordered them from overseas) and 40' of inch and a half nylon rope from a ship chandlery on the East Coast...we were ready to install the super cool rope banister.
Is this just the coolest thing ever?!?!

One problem...we didn't order quite enough
rope...I had planned on tying a monkey
fist knot at either end, but there's not enough slack
to allow it...any suggestions????

  1. Great concept! I hope you made the rope tight so that it is not just beautiful but also safe. I also hope that you used a rope between the diameters of 1.25" (32mm) and 2" (51mm) and had the rope at a height of 34" to 38" above the noses as described in R311.7.6 of the residential building code. Although it may be slightly different in California.
